Who we are

Have you felt stuck in life, overwhelmed, and like you don’t know where to start? Have you struggled with addiction, thoughts of suicide, self harm, grief, anxiety or depression? If you’ve felt like you’ve been fighting to exist for longer than you’d like and you’re tired of fighting alone, that is where counseling comes in.

My name is Paul Short, the founder and counselor of Initiative Counseling, and I may be able to help you. I became a therapist because I believe that no one should have to go through life’s hardships alone. I have extensive experience working with people going through crisis moments from work I did in college or on the crisis line. I believe the best way that therapy can help is by giving a person a place to regroup, re-evaluate what is going on and re-evaluate the best way to approach the problems at hand to get you where you want to be.

It can be hard to reach out when the world feels like it’s caving in on you, because you feel like you should be able to deal with it yourself. Some might say it’s a cry for help like you need someone to come in and save you, but I see it as someone who has been giving everything to keep fighting and all they are asking for is someone to help give them something to keep fighting with. I encourage you to reach out, because you’re the one who’s still fighting, I’m just here to help support you fight the good fight. I’d be happy to meet you in person at our comfortable office location or online.
